A group of unknown gunmen have attacked the Kensington Apartments Police Post in Kyanja in the capital Kampala. The attack happened at about 2am last night. The attackers were said to be riding on a bodaboda and they fired shots at the police post.
Gunshots were heard in the night by locals, some of whom said there was a serious exchange of fire as the police officers at the post tried their best to repulse the attackers who had opened fire at them.
Realizing that they had been overpowered, the attackers ran away and rode on their motorcycle. Official reports indicate that no police officer was killed during the attack. No police officer sustained serious injuries in this night attack. It is also said that no guns were stolen by the attackers who raided the police post.
The attack at Kyanja happened less than two weeks since unknown assailants attacked Busiika Police Station, killed two police officers and took away with guns. Following the Busiika attack, Police bosses have announced new changes that have seen closure of police posts and withdrawal of police officers. (See Details Here and There).
Following the attack at Busiika Police Station, CMI operatives arrested 10 members of ex-minister Hajj Abdul Nadduli’s family after receiving reports that they had been involved in the attack and that they had guns. But it later turned out that the Nadduli relative had misled the CMI operatives. (See Details Here).
Days later, there was chaos as a senior UPDF officer attacked Maj Kakooza Mutale’s farm over reports that he was recruiting and training rebels to overthrow Museveni, at his farm. Kakooza Mutale was saved by a phone call he made to someone ‘above.’ (Details are HERE).
