Uganda Police Force (UPF) has confirmed the arrest and detention of former Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) bosses. Dorothy Kisaka, David Luyimbazi and Dr Daniel Okello were arrested on Octover 16, 2024.
On October 14, police indicated that it had summoned Kisaka, Luyimbazi and Dr Okello to appear for questioning. The trio showed up on October 16, were quizzed and later detained awaiting production in courts of law.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke has confirmed the arrest of Kisaka, Luyimbazi and Okello. The trio are expected to face prosecution for their role in the Kiteezi landfill tragedy that claimed the lives of over 30 people in August 2024.
“As we communicated on Monday, October 14, 2024, that we had summoned former KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, former Deputy Executive Director David Luyimbazi, and former Director of Public Health and Environment, Dr Daniel Okello,” noted Rusoke.
“The above have appeared at the the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police Force headquarters today, October 16, 2024 and engaged with our team. Arising from the ongoing prosecution-led investigation, the three former officials of KCCA have been detained and will be arraigned before courts of law.”
The arrested former KCCA bosses are said to be detained at Kira and Natete police stations.
President Yoweri Museveni sacked Kisaka, Luyimbazi and Okello over the Kiteezi tragedy following a report from the Inspectorate of Government. Museveni gave the Public Service Commission an ultimatum within which to hire a new KCCA ED and directors. (See Details Here and There).
