Tens of employees, including presenters and reporters, are ending the year jobless after Nation Media Group (NMG) announced it will soon undertake suspension of operations, including programming, for 90.4 Dembe FM.
At the moment, a decision has been taken to suspend Dembe FM but official closure is expected in coming days.
The decision to close the station is based on its failure to make profits in a tough economy reeling from the effects of Covid19 pandemic and disruptions by technology, particularly social media that have shrunk advertising for traditional media.
“We regret to inform our esteemed listeners, clients and other stakeholders of 90.4 Dembe FM that the station will, for the foreseeable future, have no scheduled programming as the Board and Management reassesses its continued viability as a business concern,” said NMG in a statement.
“We apologise for any inconveniences that this may cause.”
Some of the presenters such as Isaac Daniel Katende aka Kasuku Kuku Wazabanga have already revealed their next plans.
“Talk and Talk show moves to Kasuku Live permanently every Saturday 10am to 1pm,” Kasuku wrote on X.
