Tough Times Ahead as Trump’s US Government Considers Adding Uganda to Travel Ban List

Donald Trump’s US government is considering adding Uganda to travel ban list. Uganda appears among 36 more countries to be added on the American travel ban list.

The Trump administration is giving Uganda and the countries of the group of 36 up to two months  (or 60 days) to meet requirements set by Washington or face travel bans.

But the countries have until mid next week (8am, Wednesday, June 18, 2025) to submit what the State Department termed an initial action plan to fulfil the new conditions.

Some countries will face full travel bans while others will face partial entry restrictions, The Pearl Times has learnt.

Signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the memo was sent to US ambassadors in their respective countries of service on June 14, 2025.

The list of three dozen countries is simply an expansion of travel ban by the State Department following on the ban instituted a few weeks ago.

The 36 countries facing travel ban include 25 from the African continent.

Even known US partners like Egypt and Djibouti have not been spared.

Other countries include Pacific island nations, and those from Asia, and the Caribbean.

Regarding the specific reasons for the travel ban, The Pearl Times has learnt that Washington alleges that these countries had incompetent governments while others did not cooperate well with the US when it came to producing “reliable identity documents or other civil documents.”

Other governments were reportedly dogged by fraud that Washington termed as “widespread.” Yet some other countries were to be added on the travel ban list because a considerable number of their citizens had overstayed their visas in the US.

Other countries were said to have their citizens in the US who were being accused of engaging in activities that were considered Anti-American.

One of the ways countries like Uganda could reduce on the severity of the ban was to agree to take in third-country nationals, especially as the Trump administration continues its crackdown on illegal immigrants.
