PEOPLE WILL CALL YOU WITCHES: Museveni Warns Speaker Anita Among, Deputy Tayebwa Against Holding Victory Parties Before Jacob Oulanyah’s Burial

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has advised newly elected speaker Anita Annet Among and her deputy Thomas Tayebwa not to hold celebrations and victory parties, saying people would think they are witches.

On March 25, Museveni spoke at Kololo where MPs elected a new speaker to replace the late Jacob Oulanyah.

Among later resigned her deputy speaker job, and Thomas Tayebwa was elected to that position. (Read Story Here).

In his remarks, President Museveni urged the new speaker and her deputy not to hold parties until Oulanyah has been buried.

He said holding victory parties would be an abomination and that people would think they are witches.

“To those who have won (my own NRM candidates), I urge you not to go around celebrating, we are mourning and actually, this election should not have happened but the law required so,” said the president.

“It is madness to have this election when Oulanyah is not buried, people can think we are witches. In Ankole it is a serious abomination to conduct activities of this nature while mourning.”

He also proposed the amendment of the laws on election of speaker if the one in office dies.
