Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, Uganda’s Chief Justice and head of the judiciary (judicial arm of government), is receiving some medical attention out of the country.
In recent days, there has been speculation on the health condition of the Chief Justice.
There were reports that Owiny-Dollo had been rushed out of the country in critical condition and that he was fighting for his life.
But the judiciary, through it’s spokesperson Jamson Karemani, had come out to clarify on the state of the CJ’s health condition.
Karemani has confirmed that Owiny-Dollo was not in the country. He also confirmed that the Chief Justice was receiving ‘some medical attention.’
He was quick to dismiss claims that the CJ was ‘critically I’ll.’
“The Chief Justice is not critically ill. The attention of the Judiciary has been drawn to different media publications claiming that the Chief Justice is critically ill, whereas not. While it is true that the Hon. Chief Justice is out of the country receiving some medical attention, it is not correct that he is ‘critically ill’ or ill at all,” noted Karemani.
He added that the CJ was expected back soon.
“We therefore wish to dispel the unfounded and exaggerated reports about his health, and further reassure the general public that the Chief Justice will soon return and continue serving the people of Uganda,” he noted.
“Members of the public are therefore implored to stay calm and ignore the misleading publications about the Hon. The Chief Justice.”
The news of the Chief Justice receiving medical attention abroad come at a time when the judiciary is mourning the passing of a Supreme Court judge.
It should be remembered that Owiny-Dollo was angry with Buganda after opposition NUP supporters protested outside a US hospital where former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah, his good friend, was receiving treatment. Owiny-Dollo would later meet Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and apologize to Mengo. (See Details Here and There).
