Norbert Mao and Jacob Oulanyah
Four years since his friend and former speaker Jacob Oulanyah died, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Norbert Mao has invoked his spirit. Norbert Mao is in the race for speaker and keeps touting Jacob Oulanyah’s record and credentials as the standard for a speaker of parliament, at least according to The Pearl Times’ reading.
Jacob Oulanyah and Norbert Mao were friends and political associates for a long time. String from their days at Makerere University. At that university, Norbert Mao was Guild President and Oulanyah was Speaker of the Guild Parliament in 1990.
Mao even suspected that the illness that finally claimed Jacob Oulanyah’s life could have begun with injuries the late speaker sustained during a strike at Makerere in the 1990s after which a vital organ was removed from his body. (See Details Here).
The cause of Jacob Oulanyah’s death was controversial matter. While the health minister gave a report on what killed the speaker, his father claimed his son was poisoned, as reported Here and There.
Four years since Jacob Oulanyah was laid to rest in Omoro District, Norbert Mao is invoking his spirit, especially at a time he is seeking to become speaker.
Norbert Mao wants Jacob Oulanyah’s spirit to “tell God that we can’t live like this” and how “tables are starting to turn.”
“Today it is four years since you left us. Tell God that we can’t go on like this. But He knows what to do anyway. Let us just watch and wait,” Mao wrote.
“Tables are starting to turn. Continue to rest with the Angels.”
Norbert Mao has severally criticized the current leadership of parliament that took over from Jacob Oulanyah to the extent of calling incumbent Anita Among an accidental speaker, a label she has vehemently rejected, prompting Norbert Mao to ask if Jacob Oulanya’s death was planned.
