DPP Jane Frances Abodo Appointed New Principal Judge
State House Uganda has confirmed the appointment of DPP Jane Frances Abodo as new principal judge.
State House, through deputy presidential press secretary Faruk Kirunda, said the news of Abodo’s appointment and new principal judge was authentic.
Jane Frances Abodo will soon interact with parliament’s appointments committee that will most likely approve her for the new job.
“I hereby confirm that the letter circulating on social media regarding appointment of Hon. Lady Justice Jane Francis Abodo as the new Principal Judge is authentic,” wrote Kirunda.
“Her name has been forwarded to Parliament for the necessary approval. I congratulate her.”
Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, has been the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of Uganda since March 2020. Abodo was the first female DPP in Uganda.
She has served as a judge of the High Court from 2018. Attached to the Criminal Division, Abodo was then the focal point person for plea bargaining and SGBV cases.
She has also worked in the Office of Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for over 20 years. In 2015, she received the Best Female Prosecutor of the year Award.
New principal judge Jane Frances Abodo will now replace Flavian Zeija, who was appointed deputy chief justice months ago.
