Even as some in the ruling party, National Resistance Movement (NRM), and government continue to claim to defend her, Speaker Anita Among has repeated statements equating Museveni to God and Muhoozi to Jesus – utterances considered blasphemous by some, The Pearl Times reports.
Her statements delivered in Lyantonde on June 08, 2025, have attracted condemnation.
Speaking to NRM supporters at Kalule Garage playground in Kyazanga Town Council of Bukoto West, Speaker Anita Among told those in attendance that Museveni is God the father and that Muhoozi is God the son.
At the same event hosted by Bukoto West MP Muhammad Ssentayi, Speaker Anita Among equated voters to the Holy Spirit.
“We believe in the Trinity. We believe in God the Father; and God the Father is President Museveni. God the Son is MK [a reference to first son and UPDF chief of Defence Forces – CDF – Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba],” said Among, also the Bukedea District Woman MP.
“Therefore, vote for them. God be with you all.”
Some members of NRM, like former minister Capt Mike Mukula, who is strategizing for the ruling party’s vice chairman for eastern Uganda, quickly defended the speaker and blasted the media for reporting on the matter.
“We categorically reject this distortion as a blatant misrepresentation of her remarks and a deliberate attempt to provoke public misunderstanding and mischaracterize her deep appreciation of the President’s leadership,” wrote Mukula in a statement, widely shared by his social media team.
“In her address, the Speaker expressed profound gratitude and admiration for President Museveni’s historical contribution to peace, stability, and socio-economic transformation in Uganda. This is a sentiment shared by millions of Ugandans who have directly benefited from the NRM government’s revolutionary progress. At no point did she equate the Head of State to the divine or make any theological declaration.
“As a leader grounded in constitutionalism, Hon. Anita Among respects the distinction between spiritual belief and political leadership. Her words, taken in context, were clearly figurative and meant to highlight the President’s unparalleled legacy and service to the nation.”
But Anita Among repeated the same statements in Mbarara while addressing NRM leaders who endorsed her quest for the position of Second Vice-Chairperson – female – on the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC).
“In Teso, particularly in my district, we have strong faith in the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit,” Speaker Among said at an event at Lake View Resort Hotel.
“In this context, God the father is President YK Museveni; God the Son is Muhoozi Keinerugaba; and you, the voters, represent God the Holy Spirit.”
Speaker Anita Among previously equated members of the Museveni family to the trinity, as reported Here.
