Akena and Muhoozi
First son and chief of defence forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has fired back at former president Milton Obote’s son Jimmy Michael Akena, telling him ‘Shut up Akaana Akena!’
Muhoozi reacted after Akena, the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) president, blasted him over his reckless social media posts, especially on microblogging site X, formerly Twitter.
Akena’s father Dr Milton Obote was Uganda’s first Prime Minister from 1962-1966, and president from 1980 through 1985.
On February 11, 2026, Akena urged Muhoozi to exercise restraint.
“You hold a very high position, and the fact that you are a son of the president means you must also watch your words and actions,”Akena told reporters at the UPC weekly presser in the capital Kampala.
“The sort of attitude and the sort of statements that the office of the CDF is carrying out is an embarrassment to all of us as Ugandans.”
Akena reminded Muhoozi he was neither the first nor the last first son.
“He is not the only son of the president. I was born a son of the president, a republican president, but I must act responsibly. My words must mean something, not his nonsense on Twitter,” he said.
“The other time we saw him on Twitter saying he will repair Kampala in one year. Surely if it could be, why hasn’t Museveni done it? He has been here for 40 years. If you have access, use that access to influence policy, not go to Twitter to insult people. Grow up, young man.”
He also told Museveni to rein in Muhoozi.
“While he is a General, he is also a son to President Museveni. The president should also consider playing his fatherly role by sitting his son down and calling him to order.”
He went on to tell the first son to “grow up.”
“How can you talk about torturing and killing a person who stood as a presidential candidate and had over two million Ugandans vote for him, as purported by the Electoral Commission?” he wondered.
“If nobody is going to do so, I am the one going to call out to you, Muhoozi. Please grow up. The responsibility you want to assume as president of Uganda, you cannot behave like this.”
Now, Muhoozi has told Akena to shut up, adding him the ‘Akaana’ name.
Muhoozi’s tweets have previously put him in trouble to the extent that he had to apologize to the US embassy recently, and prompting a US senator to rule that Museveni’s son had crossed the red line, as reported Here and There.
Rwandan president Paul Kagame previously offered to edit Muhoozi’s tweets while his father Museveni apologized on his behalf as he threatened Kenya, as reported Here and There.
Most recently, Muhoozi clashed with information minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi over contradicting statements on hunting for Bobi Wine who is in hiding.
Sooner, alcohol was dragged in the war of words, which only ended when first lady Janet Museveni ordered Muhoozi to stop attacking Baryomunsi. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
