First lady, also education and sports minister Janet Kataaha Museveni, is expected to address MPs on the revised school calendar, reporting dates and the possibility — or impossibility — of stimulus packages available to private schools.
Education institutions have been closed for almost two years due to Covid19 pandemic disruptions.
President Yoweri Museveni reopening universities and other tertiary institutions starting November 2021, while other levels of education are expected to reopen in January 2022.
Now, while most education sector stakeholders have for months been demanding the release of a revised school calendar to enable them plan better, their answers could be answered in just a few days.
The Pearl Times can now confirm that education minister Ms Museveni will address MPs on a range of issues related to school reopening on November 24.
According to deputy speaker of parliament Anita Annet Among, the meeting between the first lady and MPs will happen at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The MPs have now been advised to take mandatory Covid19 tests ahead of the Wednesday meeting.
“I got a communication from the first lady and minister of education and sports requesting to meet MPs to discuss the reopening of schools,” said Among.
“MPs are therefore required to take a Covid19 test on Monday for the Wednesday meeting at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.”
