SAD! Another Former Museveni Minister Dead

Another former Museveni minister is dead. Yafes Otim Omara was minister of state in charge of tourism and antiquities in President Yoweri Museveni’s government. Former Museveni minister Yafes Otim Omara was aged 70. 

Yafes Otim Omara’s younger brother Charles Joshua Otoka has been quoted as saying that his elder brother  breathed his last at around 4am on Sunday, April 05, 2026.

Former Museveni minister Yafes Otim Omara died at his son’s residence in the Kenyan county of Kiambu.

He had been receiving treatment at the Karen Hospital. Yafes Otim Omara’s son is a medical doctor at the Nairobi-based hospital. The former minister had suffered a stroke.

In 2009, government of Uganda funded Yafes Otim Omara’s kidney transplant in New Delhi in India.

It is said that after the kidney transplant, the former minister suffered heart complications. He would undergo heart operations in India and Kenya in years that followed.

His family says he had registered improvement but suffered a setback at the end of January 2025 when he suffered a stroke.

Yafes Otim Omara’s body was taken to a funeral home based in Nairobi. It will be transported back to Uganda. The former minister will be laid to rest in Alerek of Abim District.

Yafes Otim Omara was also former MP for Labwor County in present-day Abim District. Following his election to Uganda’s parliament in 1996, Yafes Otim Omara was appointed by President Museveni to be minister of state in charge of tourism and antiquities.

Yefes Otim Omara has left behind three children.
