Ruto Sends New Envoy to Uganda in Reshuffle of Ambassadors

Kenya’s President William Ruto has shaken up Kenya’s foreign service, reassigning seasoned politician Ababu Namwamba as the new High Commissioner to Uganda.

The changes were announced by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.

“His Excellency the President has this afternoon sanctioned changes within the nation’s Foreign Service. The changes are necessitated by vacancies arising from the completion of the terms of service of serving Ambassadors,” Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said.

The current High Commissioner to Uganda Joash Maangi has been deployed to Belgium as Ambassador to the European Union.

Namwamba, who takes over the reins in Uganda, is no stranger to diplomatic circles.

He was serving as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) after being appointed by Ruto in January last year.

The new envoy’s experience also includes a stint as Sport Cabinet Secretary, a position he lost when Ruto took office.

The reshuffle is aimed at filling vacancies left by Ambassadors who have completed their terms, and the changes take effect immediately, according to Koskei.

With his rich background in politics and diplomacy, Namwamba is expected to strengthen Kenya-Uganda ties.

The reshuffle is expected to further boost Kenya’s diplomatic engagements globally. The reshuffle reflects Ruto’s efforts to strategically position Kenya’s foreign service for enhanced economic and political cooperation.

In brief

– Ababu Namwamba appointed new High Commissioner to Uganda

– Replaces Joash Maangi, who moves to Belgium as Ambassador to EU

– Changes effective immediately, aimed at filling ambassadorial vacancies
