Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has assured teachers, doctors and other civil servants that government has the money needed to effect the enhancement of their salaries.
Government has proposed huge salary increments for teachers, doctors and other employees starting July 2022. (Read: NEW SALARY STRUCTURE: See How Much Teachers, Doctors, Judges & Other Government Employees Will Be Earning Every Month Starting July 2022)
But some people, such as opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, have argued that the promise of salary increment is just ‘another lie.’ (Read Story Here).
In August 2021, Museveni and his cabinet approved salary increment for teachers, doctors and other health workers. (Read Story Here).
However challenges remain when it comes to effecting the proposed increments.
But Minister Kasaija has been quoted as telling Daily Monitor that the money needed for salary enhancements is available.
“Do you think the Treasury is broke? Would you be seeing this calmness in town? We have the money and the budget; so, public servants should get ready to eat big when cabinet approves [the proposals],” the finance minister told Daily Monitor.
There are also reports that government may prioritize scientists, and even for those, it might be in phases.
