Tears and a somber mood have engulfed Uganda’s Parliament after the casket containing the body of former Dokolo District Woman MP arrived at the seat of the of the country’s legislature. This is the last time, Cecilia Ogwal’s body will be at Parliament.

Cecilia Ogwal died in an Indian hospital last week. She was 77.

Speaker Anita Among, Cecilia Ogwal’s family members, and legislators received the body of the deceased lawmaker at the Entebbe International Airport on January 21.

Ministers present as the body arrived from India included Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, Health Minister Dr JaneRuth Aceng and junior Sports Minister Peter Ogwang.

The body of Cecilia Ogwal was transported to Mulago Hospital and later to A-Plus Funeral Home. Later in the evening, the body was taken to Ogwal’s residence in Bugolobi for vigil.

At the vigil, Speaker Anita Among was pictured shedding tears over the loss of Cecilia Ogwal. Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo was seen comforting her.

At the Bugolobi vigil, Archbishop of Church of Uganda, Rt Rev Dr Stephen Kazimba Mugalu ministered to the mourners.

On Monday, January 22, the body of Cecilia Ogwal was taken to Parliament. By the time of publication of this report, the casket was at the Central Lobby where Members of Parliament and other mourners were viewing the body and signing the condolence book.

According to the revised funeral program, a special sitting to pay tribute to Cecilia Ogwal will happen in the chamber of Parliament at midday (12 noon).
