President Yoweri Museveni has granted Dokolo District Woman MP Cecilia Ogwal official burial, presidency minister Milly Babirye Babalanda has announced.
Cecilia Ogwal belonged to opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) while Museveni is the chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). Although vocal and critical of the Museveni government, Ogwal was tolerant.
Minister Babalanda also said Museveni had confirmed he would attend a vigil in honor of Cecilia Ogwal.
“Dear Countrymen/Countrywomen, I wish to inform you that the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E Gen (Rtd) Yoweri Museveni, has granted an official burial to the Hon. Imat Cecilia Atim Ogwa , the fallen Dokolo District Woman Representative (DWR),” said Babalanda.
“Furthermore, H.E the President will personally attend the vigil in honour of the Late at Parliament. We extend sympathies to H.E the President upon losing a friend, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among and Parliament at large, the Ogwal family and Ugandans at large. May Imat Cecilia’s soul rest in eternal peace!”
CECILIA OGWAL BURIAL PROGRAM
According to a burial program released by Parliament of Uganda, the body of the late Cecilia Ogwal will arrive at Entebbe International Airport aboard Emirates at 2:10pm on Sunday, January 21. Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and the members of the bereaved family will receive the body before it is transported to Mulago National Referral Hospital and later to A-Plus Funeral Home.
Parliament will hold a special sitting to honor and pay tribute to Cecilia Ogwal at 12 noon on Monday, January 22. There will be viewing of the body starting at 9am at Parliament on the same day. A vigil will happen at Cecilia Ogwal’s Bugolobi home that evening.
On Tuesday, January 23, the body of Cecilia Ogwal will depart her Bugolobi residence for All Saints Cathedral Nakasero for a funeral service at 9am. Thereafter, the body will depart for Dokolo via Soroti for a vigil at Adok Sub County in Dokolo District.
On Wednesday, January 24, the body of Cecilia Ogwal will depart Adok for a joint council sitting at Dokolo District Headquarters starting at 9am and heading at 2pm after which the body will depart for Lira City for a vigil.
On Thursday, January 25, the body of Cecilia Ogwal will depart the Lira City residence for a church service at St Augustine Cathedral, Bar Ogole at 9am and thereafter leave for St Paul Church, Alito Aechdeaconry, Kole District for a service at 3pm. Thereafter, the body will leave for her home in Dog Gudu Cell, Alito Town Council, Kole District for a vigil.
On Friday, January 26, there will be a church service at Cecilia Ogwal’s home in Alito at 10am. There will also be a public viewing of the body of Cecilia Ogwal.
Cecilia Ogwal’s body will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 27.
The official program was released after Parliament and FDC clashed over Cecilia Ogwal’s funeral program.
