President Yoweri Museveni’s newly announced Cabinet has revealed major regional disparities in the distribution of ministerial positions, with Western and Central Uganda emerging as the biggest beneficiaries in the new government lineup.
Western Uganda received the highest number of ministerial appointments with 26 positions, reinforcing the region’s long-standing dominance in senior government roles.

Central Uganda followed with 21 ministers. The region, which includes Buganda, remains politically influential due to its economic strength and electoral significance.
Eastern Uganda secured 17 Cabinet positions, placing it third among the regions represented in Museveni’s government.
Northern Uganda received eight ministerial slots, while West Nile got seven positions as a separate sub-region representation in the Cabinet structure.
Karamoja emerged with the least representation after receiving only three ministerial appointments in the new Cabinet.
Critics of Museveni’s administration have often argued that western Uganda enjoys disproportionate influence in top government positions, although government officials have repeatedly defended appointments as being based on competence and political considerations.
Cabinet appointments in Uganda often serve multiple purposes beyond administration, including rewarding political loyalty, balancing regional interests and strengthening support bases ahead of future elections.
