NRM Primaries Chaos: Eight Party Registrars Arrested for Changing Results

At least eight party registrars have been arrested for changing results in recently held NRM primaries.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) went to parliamentary primaries last week. The NRM primaries were marred by chaos and electoral malpractice, including widespread cases of altering of results.

President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the ruling NRM national chairman, has described such cases as “kutokooza (polluting)” of the NRM primaries “by self-seekers who do not care about the reputation and the glorious heritage of the NRM/NRA/FRONASA.”

Describing the party’s reputation as “a heritage of martyrs and heroes, not self-seekers who would, at the cost of their lives, assault machine-guns of the enemy,” Museveni assured party members that the “self-seekers” will face the full weight of the law.

Museveni has confirmed the arrest of at least eight registrars from at least eight districts for reportedly altering results.

“I want to assure you that the state agencies of Uganda have started the necessary anti-crime actions against the self-seekers. They are starting with the clear cases of the idiots alleged to have altered the results in the tallying,” noted Museveni.

“8 of them have been arrested. They are from Mayuge, Buyende, Kapchorwa, Pader, Oyam, Rwampara, Kareenga and Mbarara.”

Museveni added that more arrests are expected as more incriminating evidence comes through.

“Other targets are being followed up. I will keep you informed. Meanwhile, get us evidence against the other offences of violence, bribery and interfering with the registers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NRM elections tribunal has received over 20 petitions so far arising from the NRM primaries chaos.

“I have constituted a committee of powerful lawyers to handle the petitions. We shall clean up the NRM as we also defend the wider interests of all the Ugandans,” the party chairman said.
