Imagine calling someone and it is their partner’s voice on the other line! That is what Ugandan prime minister Robinah Nabbanja went through when she called first lady Janet Museveni only for President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni to pick the call. The story of when Nabbanja Called Janet to Share a Top Secret Only for Museveni to Pick the Phone speaks to the first couple’s relationship.
See, Ugandans see Janet’s hand clasped in Museveni’s as they arrive for events. And if Nabbanja’s claims is anything to go by, it seems the closeness is, in football terms, home and away.
We won’t delve into what some people would do if their phone rang and their partner picked it. So, let’s stick to the Nabbanja-Janet phone call.
At an event during the Parish Development Model (PDM) assessment tour in Bunyoro sub-region, Nabbanja told the audience that one time she had an issue stressing her and was sure that Maama Janet would offer some help or advice.
So, since she has direct access to State House, she dialed Maama’s number and was very prepared to tell her what was itching her.
As a matter of fact, Nabbanja said she did not want Mzee Museveni to hear her conversation with Maama Janet, the Minister of Education and Sports.
But it seemed that Mzee Museveni was closer to the phone than Maama Janet and it was him who picked.
“PM Nabanjja cracks the audience, says one time she was stressed and was looking for the Education Minister ( First Lady Janet Museveni ), to discuss something “quietly” without going through Pres M7’s ears. She called the First Lady tu tu .. 📞 and it’s Pres M7 who picked 🙆🏻♂️” shared State House aide Nelson Bwire Kapo
It should be remembered that when Museveni appointed Nabbanja as prime minister, some people wrote her off, with MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda saying she was not fit to even become a CEO of a garbage collecting company, which remarked she reacted to. (See Details Here and There).
