The Ministry of Education and Sports will, through the Education Service Commission (ESC), go ahead to hire up to 2,852 teachers and non-teaching staff after approval of funds for recruitment to take place.
Parliament approved the funds as part of supplementary expenditure schedule number three for the 2024-2025 financial year after the budget committee approved the same.
The 2,852 teachers and non-teaching staff will be recruited to teach and work in 92 seed secondary schools under phase two of the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGIFT).
The Education Service Commission had asked for Shs 1.3 billion for the recruitment of these teachers and non-teaching staff.
“The Committee observed that Education Service Commission (ESC) requires Shs 1.3 billion to facilitate the Vote to recruit 2,852 teaching and non-teaching staff required to operationalize 92 phase II Seed Secondary Schools under Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program (UGIFT),” the report read in part.
“The Committee recommends approval of Shs 1.3 billion to Vote 132 – Education Senrice Commission (ESC).”
