NEW SALARY STRUCTURE FOR 2022-2023 FINANCIAL YEAR RELEASED: See How Much Each Government Employees’ Category Will Be Earning Starting This Month; Science Teachers & Other Scientists Prioritized

Uganda’s Ministry of Public Service has released the salary structure for the current financial year (FY2022-2023), showing how much each public (civil) servant or government employee will be earning starting July 2022.

The new 2022-2023 Financial Year salary structure also shows which categories of government employees or public servants have been given a salary increment and by how much their pay would be enhanced.

In a Standing Circular Instrument (CSI) number 001 of 2022 for the 2022-2023 Financial Year as issued on July 01, 2022, Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwiire, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service, released the new salary structure that will be followed in the payment of government employees.

PS Bitarakwate noted that a wage bill of Shs 5.985 trillion (UgShs 5,985.40 Billion) has been allocated for Financial Year 2022/2023. She further noted that this represents an increment of Ushs 509.29 Billion (9.3%) from the wage bill of last Financial Year 2021/2022 of UShs. 5,476.11 Billion.

The Permanent Secretary went on to indicate that the Wage for FY 2022/2023 has been based on a number of considerations, including the number of staff in post as at 30th June 2022, supplementary wage provided in FY 2021/2022, recruitment cleared by the Ministry of Public Service in FY 2021/2022, need for recruitment of critical Health Workers in Local Governments, as well as the operationalization of new administrative units in Local Governments.

She also listed the categories of public officers whose salaries have been increased “in line with the phased approach to the implementation of salary enhancement and arising from the global impact of Covid19.”

According to Bitarakwate, the categories of public servants which will have their salaries enhanced this financial year are: Health Professionals and Health Tutors; Scientists in the Mainstream Public Service; Science Teachers in Post Primary Schools; Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants in Post Primary Schools; Science Lecturers/ Tutors/ Instructors in Business, Technical and Vocational Education Training (BTVET) Institutions; Legal professionals under the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
