NDA employs 287 staff and their wage bill is over Shs 22.8 billion a year

NDA SALARIES SHOCKER: Where a Driver Earns More Than a Secondary School Head Teacher

National Drug Authority

The salary structure for the Uganda National Drug Authority (UNDA) shows that staff at this agency earn so huge amounts of money, with a driver earning more than a secondary school head teacher. While the said head teacher earns Shs 2.35 m every month, a driver at Uganda’s NDA earns Shs 2,981,960, according the NDA salaries list.

NDA employs 287 staff and their wage bill is over Shs 22.8 billion a year. The salary structure includes salaries paid per job title and department.

The Office of Secretary to the Authority is the first department where the Secretary to the Authority earns Shs 32,522,671  every month or Shs 390,272,052 per year.

In the same office, the Manager, Public Relations earns Shs 10,891,787 or Shs  130,701,444 per year. The executive Administrative Assistant earns Shs  3,959,786 monthly or Shs 47,517,432 a year.

The Head of legal earns Shs 17,600,231 monthly or Shs  211,202,772 annually. The Manager Harmonization gets 10,891,787 every month or 130,701,444 every year.

Each of the five Legal Officers earns Shs 5,900,279 every month. A Food Safety Officer earns Shs 5,900,279 monthly or Shs 70,803,348 a year. A Legal Assistant earns Shs 2,461,960 a month or Shs 29,543,520 a year. A Court Clerk earns Shs 1,565,753 a month or Shs 18,789,036 a year.

An Administrative Officer earns Shs 3,959.786 or Shs  47,517,432 a year. The salary of the Head Procurement is 17,600,231 monthly or Shs 211,202,772  a year.

That of a  Senior Procurement Officer is Shs 7,200,000 a month or Shs 86,400,000 a year while that for each of the two Procurement Officers is Shs 5,900,279.

The Head Veterinary earns Shs 16,890,293 monthly or Shs 202,683,516 annually; the Head internal Audit earns Shs 17,600,231 monthly or Shs 211,202,772 annually.

The salary of a Senior Internal Auditor  IS Shs 7,200,000 monthly or Shs 86,400,000 annually. Each of NDA’s two internal Auditor earns Shs 5,900,279 monthly.

Each of the two Administrative Assistants earns Shs 2,461,960 monthly. This department (directorate employs 25 staff who earn a total of over Shs 176.4 million every month, translating in over 2.57 billion every year. Next is the Directorate of Product Assessment & Registration.

Director Product Assessment & Registration earns over Shs 22 million, translating in Shs 265 million a year. The Manager TCM & Health Products and the the Manager Medicines earn Shs 14,091,787 | 169,101,444, each.

The Principal Officer – Veterinary Medicine, Principal Officer – Biologicals/Vaccines, Principal Officer (Post Regulation)  and the Principal Officer – Human Medicine earn Shs 12,052,438 monthly and Shs 144,629,256 annually, each. Each of the 23 Regulatory Officers (Senior or Officers)  earns Shs 8.4 million.

Next on the NDA salaries list is the  Directorate of Laboratory Services. The Director for Laboratory Services  earns Shs 22,096,729 monthly or Shs 265,160,748 a year.  

The Manager Laboratory Quality Management Systems, Manager Medicines and Manager Medical Devices each earns Shs 10,891,787 a month or Shs 130,701,444 a year.

The Principal Officer – PHP, Principal Officer- Microbiology and Principal Officer – Herbal, each earns Shs 8,712,000 a month or Shs 104, 544,000 a year.

Each of the Quality Management and Database Officers earns Shs 5,900,279, so does each of the 16 analysts. Each of the two Principal Officers – Medical Devices in this unit earns Shs 8,712,000 a month.

Each of the nine Laboratory Assistants earns Shs 2,461,960 a month. Each of the 11 technicians earns Shs 3,805,226 a month.

The fourth unit on the NDA salaries list is the Directorate of Product Safety where the director earns 22,096,729 monthly or Shs 265,160,748 a year.

The Manager Post Market Surveillance and the Manager Pharmacovigilance earn Shs 10,891,787 a month or Shs 130,701,444 a year, each. Principal Officer- Medicines, Principal Officer-Veterinary, Principal Officer (Research) and Principal Officer-Clinical trials earn Shs 8,712,000, each. Each of the 12 Regulatory Officers earns Shs 5,900,279 a month, the same amount earned by a Research officer.

The next unit is the Directorate of Inspectorate Services. Here, the director earns the director earns 22,096,729 monthly or Shs 265,160,748 a year.

Head Enforcement and Head Regional Offices earn Shs 16,890,293, each. Each of the seven Managers for Regional Offices, Manager Imports and Exports, Manager GMP/GDP/GPP earn Shs 10,891,787 a month. Each of the two Principal Regulatory Officers earn Shs 8,712,000 a month.

Each of the Regulatory Officers (Enforcement) earns Shs 5,900,279 monthly, and so does each of the 50 Regulatory Officers (Regions & HQ) and seven of the Finance and Administrative Officers. Each of the 12 drivers earns Shs 2,981, 960 a month while each of the seven administrative and stores assistants earns Shs 2,461,960.

The sixth unit at NDA is the Directorate of Corporate Services where the Director Corporate Services earns Shs 22,096,729, the head of ICT earns Shs 16,890,293, Head of Finance 17,600,231, Manager QMS Shs10,891,787 and so does Manager Business Development, while the Principal Officer Monitoring and Evaluation gets Shs 8,712,000.

The ICT Support Officer, Risk Management Officer, and Management Information Systems Officer, each of the accountants, Network and Security Officer, and QMS officer earn Shs 5,900,279 each.

The seventh and last unit on the NDA salaries list is the Department of Human Resources and Administration where the Head of Human Resources and Administration gets Shs 17,600,231 monthly. The Principal Officer HR Management earns Shs 8,712,000, a Registry Officer Shs 5,900,279, a registry assistant, an Administrative Assistant – Front Office and an Administrative Assistant – Stores Shs 2,461,960 each.

An Office Assistant gets Shs 1,565,753 while an Administration Manager gets Shs 10,891,787. An Officer-Security gets Shs 5,900,279, a Senior Officer-Fleet Management Shs 6,987,100, an Estates/ Facilities Officer Shs 5,900,279. A Driver or Senior Driver gets Shs 2,981,960 per month while each of the 18 Senior Administrative Assistants earns Shs 3,060,770 per month.
