Nakulabye woman becomes fourth Ugandan to die of Covid19

Uganda has registered its fourth Covid19 death, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed in a statement issued on August 01.

The deceased was a 61-year-old woman who resided in Kiyimbi, Nakulabye in Kampala. She had developed Covid19-like symptoms, such as cough, fever, chest pain and difficulty in breathing.

On July 29, she had gone to Mengo Hospital for treatment but doctors at the health facility had referred her to the Mulago National Referral Hospital a day later.

She was admitted at Mulago until July 31 when doctors pronounced her dead.

Samples that MoH had sent to Makerere University Laboratories for testing returned positive results. This is the fourth fatal Covid19 case detected only when it is too late.

MoH has now listed 12 contacts of the deceased for tracing, testing and quarantine.

Meanwhile, Uganda has recorded 22 new Covid19 cases, including 10 returnees from abroad, six truck drivers, four contacts of recently confirmed cases and two alerts.

The six truck drivers had arrived from Kenya: four via Lwakhakha and two through Malaba border point. Nine of the positive cases from the group that returned abroad were from Saudi Arabia while one was from Kenya, and had been placed under quarantine.

Also under quarantine before MoH confirmed them to have Covid19 were the four contacts from Namisindwa District.

To date, Uganda has 1,176 confirmed cases, 1.045 recoveries and four deaths, out of a total of 275,355 samples tested.
