Police say they have arrested Eva Mbabazi, the mysterious woman linked to the death of Dr John Spire Kiggundu.
Dr Kiggundu was found dead about one hour after checking into Lubowa-based Dream Guest House along Entebbe Road on June 21, 2025.
It was rumoured that Eva Mbabazi was the last person that saw Dr Kiggundu before he died.
Other reports suggested that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage secured by Dream Guest House had shown a woman believed to be Eva Mbabazi leaving Dr Kiggundu’s room.
“We have been looking for her and finally this week we arrested her and brought her in,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Patrick Onyango.
“She has been cooperative, and she gave us all the information which we wanted, we recorded her statement.”
Police detectives are hoping that Eva Mbabazi’s testimony will help them understand circumstances surrounding the last hours of Dr Kiggundu.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) was expected to decide on whether to prosecute Eva Mbabazi.
“We forwarded the file to the state Attorney for perusal and legal advise. Since this was a general inquiry file, we did not attach a charge sheet,” added Onyango.
“We wanted the state attorney to guide us on whether she has a case to answer and what charge we should file.”
