Museveni says doctors didn’t do enough to save Archbishop Lwanga’s life

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has told mourners gathered for the national requiem event for the fallen Kampala Archdiocese Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga at Kololo that doctors failed to save his life.

Museveni wondered why doctors had failed to help Archbishop Lwanga live longer despite having knowledge of his health condition.

“When I received the news of Archbishop Lwanga’s death, I called the police surgeon who was involved in his postmortem and they told me the condition was well known,” Museveni said on April 06.

“I asked them if it was the case, what did they do about it when he was alive!”

Here’s what exactly killed Archbishop Lwanga

The president argued that doctors should have done everything within their means to save the religious leader.

“Although religion gives us the comfort that when we die, it is because God has called us, I want our people to stay here as long as possible,” explained Museveni.

“Hence doctors should have explored all options when dealing with known conditions like the one that killed Archbishop Lwanga.”

He also paid tribute to Lwanga for his contribution to Uganda.

“I ordered this official mourning of our brother Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga because he was a distinguished Archbishop, a national leader of a far different calibre,” said Museveni.

“He made a serious contribution to this country while he lived.”
