Believed by a faction of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to be a ‘Museveni man and mole,’ Budadiri West MP and party Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi says that veteran politician and four-time presidential candidate Col (Rtd) Dr Kizza Besigye hates him because of that!
Nandala Mafabi says Besigye has always tried to block him from leading the FDC as party president and that he does not want him to be on the ballot in 2026.
That, for instance, the retired colonel from Rwakabengo once persuaded him against challenging former army commander Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu in FDC presidential elections.
In an interview at Kyambogo on August 08, the seasoned legislator from Bugisu seemed to want to blame Besigye for his current woes after he was linked to dirty money from Museveni.
But while Nandala Mafabi claims Besigye has always not wanted him to shine, the FDC struggled to get a candidate in the 2021 presidential poll after Besigye declined to run for the fifth time in a row.
The FDC settled for an unsophisticated and ill prepared Patrick Oboi Amuriat, Mafabi’s ally, who performed dismally.
Yet a seemingly panicking Mafabi as Kampala Lord Mayor and FDC Deputy President believes now has declared a 2026 presidential run and wants to suggest that Besigye – who is not in State House Entebbe – is his number one opponent as opposed to Gen Yoweri Museveni who will have ruled the country for four decades by 2026.
“I will contest in 2026 as FDC flag-bearer and that is the reason Kizza Besigye has been using all fronts to frustrate my efforts since FDC was constructed. When I contested for the party president of FDC with Maj Gen (rtd) Mugisha Muntu, Besigye forced me to support Muntu yet I kept heaping him with support both campaigning for him and giving him financial support,” Nandala Mafabi told government daily, The New Vision.
“I want to contest against President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. That’s why Besigye is hunting me down with baseless accusations.”
Days ago, Besigye revealed that Nandala Mafabi started speaking in tongues when he summoned him to explain how he got ‘dirty money’ from Museveni. It should be remembered that Nandala and Amuriat are accused of getting billions from Museveni to fight Bobi Wine and to reportedly sell the FDC to Museveni. (See Details Here and There).
