Yewagnesh Mamo Yogi, wife to Wasswa Biriggwa, the chairman of main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and one of the party’s 2021 presidential flag bearer aspirants, has maintained her position on the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).
On September 14, sitting at State House Entebbe, Cabinet approved the new UTB Board of Directors, maintaining former trade, tourism and industry minister Daudi Migereko as board chairperson.
Members of the fourth UTB board of directors, like others before them, are charged with the responsibility of promoting Uganda as a preferred tourism destination both domestically and internationally.
They are also expected to play a lead role in monitoring and enforcing standards in the tourism sector through inspection, registration, licensing and classification of tourism facilities and services.
Besides Yogi, four other members, including former information minister Jim Muhwezi’s wife Susan Muhwezi, Sabila Chemonges Mongea, Dr Suleiman Katende and Eddy Kirya, kept their positions.
New members of UTB board of directors include: Vivian Lyazi, Paul Mwanja, Ronald Kagwa and Al Hajji Eng Ayub Sooma. Dropped from the board are James Lutalo, Zeridah Zigiti, Edith Kateme and Tom David Wasswa. Current UTB Chief Executive Officer Lillian Ajarova will be Secretary to the Board of Directors.
The board of directors will now serve a three-year renewable term during which they are expected to offer oversight and advice to UTB through the committees of Finance and Administration, Planning and Resource Mobilization and Marketing, and Quality Assurance.
