Muntu to Museveni: You wouldn’t block opposition campaigns if you’re popular

Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu has castigated incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni for claiming he had support across the country yet continued to block his opponents’ campaigns.

On November 30, police blocked Muntu from holding campaign meetings in three areas in Entebbe Municipality.

“In total disregard of communication from the Electoral Commission, security agencies have blocked us from talking to the people in Nakiwogo, Kigunga and Kitooro in Entebbe,” complained the former army commander.

“Nonetheless we were warmly welcomed in Kitubulu and like everywhere else we have been, the desire for change is deep.”

The presidential candidate then wondered why Museveni, his bush war comrade, continued to claim he was strong yet security agencies, for which he is commander-in-chief, have severally interfered with opponents’ campaigns.

“If the government has done well for the people, why are they so afraid of the opposition talking to them?” wondered Muntu.

“If the government had done so much good for them, they would let the opposition talk to them, sure that they would listen but still stick to the current regime.”

Muntu believes that Museveni is at his weakest and that the people badly want change from the NRM rule.

“That the regime is going through so much trouble to keep us from talking to the people is quite telling,” Muntu noted.

“They also recognize that there is deep dissatisfaction and desire for change, and they are trying to suppress them.”

Muntu heads to North Buganda on December 01. He will campaign in Luweero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola.
