Lubaga Hospital has confirmed the death of Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya.
Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) to which Ssegirinya belonged, had earlier in the day announced Ssegirinya’s death only to issue a clarification saying the youthful legislator was yet to be pronounced dead.
In his clarification, Bobi Wine said Muhammad Ssegirinya brain death had been compounded by failure of other vital organs.
On hearing that Ssegirinya was brain dead and that most of his organs had shut down, the MP’s mother informed NUP that ‘Mr Update’ had passed on.
The hospital acting executive director, Sr Dr Grace Nanyondo, would later tell the media and NUP officials that Ssegirinya was ‘critically sick’ and needed prayers and love.
A few hours later, Lubaga Hospital issued an official statement announcement of the passing of the honorable Muhammad Ssegirinya.
“With deep sorrow, Lubaga Hospital announces the passing of Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Honorable Member of Parliament for Kawempe North. Hon. Ssegirinya has been under the dedicated care of our medical team at Lubaga Hospital. Despite all efforts to ensure his recovery, he passed away today, Thursday, 9th January 2025, at 12:10 pm,” Lubaga Hospital management announced.
“On behalf of the hospital, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Parliament of Uganda, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Members of Parliament, his family, and the people of Kawempe North, whom he represented with passion and commitment. We join the nation in mourning a dedicated servant of the people.
