National Unity Platform (NUP) secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya has spoken out on claims that Butambala MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi had been involved in an accident.
Reports that Kivumbi had been involved in an accident spread online July 21 afternoon.
There were also claims that the vocal opposition MP, who also chairs the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, was in critical condition.
But SG Rubongoya dismissed the reports hours later, saying Kivumbi hadn’t been involved in any accident.
“Just spoken with Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi. He is well,” said Rubongoya.
“Ignore the false news claiming he’s been involved in an accident. It’s not true.”
In recent months, there has been a spate of fake news targeting top government officials, including first family members such as President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni and first son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
