Socialite Charles Olim aka Sipapa has been linked to a number of city robberies, a top official of the Uganda Police Force (UPF) has revealed.
Sipapa and his girlfriend were remanded last week following their arrest over a robbery reported by a South Sudanese national.
Last week, Sipapa and his co-accused were arraigned before Makindye Chief Magistrate Court and charged with six counts of aggravated robbery.
Today, UPF spokesperson Fred Enanga has revealed that Sipapa has been linked to more robberies and burglaries in a number of areas around Kampala.
With Sipapa arrested, officers under the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Forensics Directorate did further investigations that included those carried out on DNA and finger print samples.
Results from these investigations placed Sipapa at the scenes of several robberies in Kampala.
Enanga told reporters at a weekly press briefing in Kampala on Monday that investigators had linked Sipapa to 12 scenes of crime involving robbery, theft and burglary.
He added that by running Sipapa’s DNA samples and finger prints into the forensics database, scientific evidence had indicated that the socialite could have taken part in robberies from as far back as 2014.
The robberies Sipapa is said to have participated in were recorded in areas such as Kabalagala, Jinja Road, Kira, Bugoloobi, Ntinda, Kiwatule and Kyanja Jomayi.
Last week, Sipapa and his lover were sent to Luzira Prison on remand where they are expected to spend more days. (Read Story Here).
