Independent candidate Mercy Kanyesigye has been elected the national female youth MP after beating National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer Diana Ampaire Kampe.
Mercy Kanyesigye had lost to Diana Ampaire Kampe in the NRM primaries but opted to run as an independent candidate.
At an election for national female youth MP, Mercy Kanyesigye beat Diana Ampaire Kampe by just 18 votes to bag a seat in the 12th parliament.
Mercy Kanyesigye got 216 votes while Diana Ampaire Kampe got 198 votes.
In third place was Julia Muhumuza with 24 votes. Edith Namande Nakayiza got one vote. One vote was invalid.
Mercy Kanyesigye’s supporters jubilated at the Hoima Stadium after she was declared the newly elected national youth female MP.
