First son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has fired back at former former army commander and Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) leader Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu for advising him to ask his father to allow him leave the UPDF.
It all started when Kainerugaba revealed that he had thwarted plans by some security officers to lead Uganda to war with Rwanda. The first son, who is also the Commander of UPDF Land Forces (CLF), said he had reported the security officers to his father Gen Museveni.
“There was a terrible conspiracy amongst some people in the security services that wanted us to go to war with our brothers in Rwanda. Their biggest catastrophe is that President Museveni appointed me CLF. Once I discovered this conspiracy, I reported to the President.
Maj Gen Muntu, a 2021 presidential candidate, then told the first son to use the same insight he had used to prevent Uganda and Rwanda from going to war to ask his father Museveni to retire him from the army so that he can pursue his presidential ambitions.
“Great. Use the same insight to ask the CIC to retire you from the Army as you pursue your political Agenda. It is legitimate. However, respect the officers & men in Uniform. NRA/ UPDF has been built through many sacrifices. Welcome to politics but GET OUT of uniform first,” advised Muntu.
Now, Lt Gen Kainerugaba has responded to Muntu telling him to concentrate on his ” small collapsing political party.”
“General Greg, first of all, habari ya siku mingi sana? I hope you are well? Secondly, me, my father and practically everybody else in UPDF does not require your ‘Insight’ into anything. Please keep it for yourself and your small collapsing political party,” wrote the first son.
Even when he is still a serving army officer, Muhoozi has declared that he is interested in the presidency. During his recently concluded 48th birthday celebrations, and through his Twitter account, the first son has made political statements, talking of a youth movement, revolution, a better country, and his quest to become Uganda’s president as being unstoppable.
