LIVE UPDATES ON OFFICIAL & VERIFIED IEBC RESULTS! Raila Odinga Ahead But William Ruto Closing Gap

Official and verified results from constituencies show that Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party candidate Raila Amollo Odinga is ahead of Kenya Kwanza candidate William Samoei Ruto in the Kenyan presidential election but the latter is steadily closing in on the former.

About 14 million Kenyans went to the polls on Tuesday, August 09, to choose a successor to Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto, who have served as president and deputy president, respectively, for the past 10 years.

But results have delayed due to the stringent and largely manual verification exercise. The media had started tallying results from the portal of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) but the tallies were withdrawn after reports of hacking into the website of the electoral body. But the commission has dismissed reports that its portal was hacked.

As official results continue to trickle in, the race for the 50 per cent plus one vote is shaping up.

While the race has attracted four candidates — Ruto, Odinga, Prof George Wajackoyah of the Roots Party, and David Waihiga Mwaure, the race is tight between Ruto and Odinga, at least according to earlier tallies and the IEBC count.

This latest update indicates that Raila Odinga has so far bagged 2,288,315 votes, equivalent to 52.54 per cent of what has so far been tallied as official and verified.

It also shows that William Ruto has garnered 2,036,795 votes or 46.76 per cent of the total votes tallied.

George Wajackoyah has 20,002 votes or 0.45 per cent while Waihiga Mwaure has so far managed 10,167 votes or 0.23 per cent.

The constituencies tallied so far had 6,623,173 registered voters. The votes considered valid were 4,355,279 while those rejected were 36,115.

Meanwhile, Odinga’s deputy Martha Karua has announced that the Azimio tally indicates that Raila Odinga has won the election. (Read Story HERE).

But tallying of votes at the NTC at the Bomas of Kenya is still ongoing, with results showing how Odinga, Ruto, Waihiga and Wajackoyah performed per constituency being announced periodically. (See the latest results per constituency HERE.).
