Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati has revealed that a returning officer for the Constituency of Embakasi East has gone missing.
On Friday night, Chebukati told Kenyans that Daniel Muchoka had disappeared on August 11 morning after walking away from his bodyguards to make an important phone call.
“We wish to inform the country that our returning officer for Embakasi East Constituency, Mr Daniel Musyoka, has been reported missing while on duty at the East African School of Aviation Centre,” said Chebukati.
“Reports received by the commission indicate that around 9:00am on 11th of August, he was escorted from his house to the tallying centre by his bodyguards, but around 9:45 am, he excused himself to make a telephone call but never returned to the office.”
IEBC has since replaced Musyoka with his deputy.
“His family and the commission have been trying to reach him without success and his duties are now being handled by the deputy Returning Officer. A report of a missing person has been made at Embakasi Police Station,” added the elections body boss.
“The commission is deeply concerned about this unfortunate incident and calls upon the relevant security agencies to speedily investigate this matter.”
Meanwhile, the IEBC has continued to release official and verified presidential results per constituency as Raila Odinga and William Ruto continue to battle it out in their race to State House. (See Results Per Constituency in our Live Updates Story Here).
