LIST: Uganda’s Best Performing Municipalities and Districts in PLE 2024

As Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has indicated, the number of top grades in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) has slightly decreased despite the general performance registered compared with the PLE class of 2023. Here are the top best performing municipalities and districts in PLE 2024 according to the number of first grades.

Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality is number one in these rankings. The Municipality has 52 per cent of its candidates scoring first grade (aggregate four to aggregate 12). Of its 1,561 candidates, 814 passed in first grade (division one).

This means that a little over half of all the candidates who sat PLE 2024 in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality scored first grade.t also means that five of every 10 candidates bagged the coveted first grade.

Bushenyi Municipality was followed by Kisoro Municipality with 49 per cent of all its candidates passing in first grade.

Of the 738 candidates who sat PLE in 2024 in Kisoro Municipality, 359 passed in division one.

This means that nearly a half of all the candidates who sat Primary Leaving Examinations in the Municipality of Kisoro had their grades somewhere from aggregate four to aggregate 12.

It also means that almost five of every 10 candidates scored a first grade.

In third position wwe Ntungamo Municipality which had 43 per cent of its 571 candidates passing with first grades.

In the fourth position was Kabale Municipality with 39 per cent of its 1,847 candidates passing in division one.

In the fifth position is Rukungiri Municipality with 36 per cent (435) of its 1,192 candidates scoring first grades.

In position number six is Mbarara City where 34 per cent or 2,099 candidates of the 6,170 who sat PLE in 2024 managing to score first grades.

The top six list of best performing municipalities and districts in PLE are five municipalities and one city all from western Uganda sub regions of Ankole (Nkore) and Kigezi.

Completing the top 10 list of best performing districts and municipalities in PLE 2024 are Mukono Municipality in the seventh position, Masaka City in the eighth, Kira Municipality in the ninth and Kasese Municipality in the 10th.
