Business Insider Africa has claimed Uganda’s president Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni is the most paid leader on the African content despite the 76-year-old saying he only earns Shs3.6m monthly.
A report filed by Business Insider Africa head editor Victor Oluwole says it relied on “data scoured from country websites and data from organisations such as the International Monetary Fund and the CIA World Factbook” to compile a list of “15 of the highest-paid African leaders in 2021.”
Oluwole and Business Insider Africa’a list comprises the amount of money each president reportedly earns annually juxtaposed against the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Per Capita for the countries they lead.
Paul Biya of Cameroon, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya are ahead of Museveni.
The business publication claimed Museveni earns $183,216 (about Shs650m) annually.
Computed annually, President Museveni’s Shs3.6m monthly pay translates into just over Shs40m.
