The Government has announced that several additional categories of public servants will benefit from salary enhancements beginning this financial year, with the changes extending beyond the widely publicized increments for primary and arts teachers.
Speaking on the government’s salary enhancement programme, Gen. Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Public Service, revealed that a number of senior public officers in both central and local government have also received salary increases.
“Also along the same line, the following people have had salary enhancements: Deputy Chief Administrative Officers, Deputy City Town Clerks, City Division Town Clerks, Assistant Commissioners, Heads of departments in local governments, public officers in salary scale two. All these have also had their salaries enhanced,” Gen. Katumba Wamala said.
According to the minister, the categories that have received salary enhancements include:
- Deputy Chief Administrative Officers (Deputy CAOs)
- Deputy City Town Clerks
- City Division Town Clerks
- Assistant Commissioners
- Heads of Departments in Local Governments
- Public officers on Salary Scale U2
Gen. Katumba Wamala said full details of the revised salary structure will soon be made public through an official government circular.
“Details of that will be found in the circular which will be released,” he said.
The announcement comes as the government rolls out a broader salary enhancement programme aimed at improving the welfare of public servants across various sectors.
Earlier, the government confirmed salary increases for primary school teachers, arts teachers, primary school headteachers and arts headteachers, with the new pay expected to take effect from July 2026.
The latest announcement indicates that the salary review is not limited to the education sector but also covers key administrative and managerial positions within the public service.
Public servants are now awaiting the official circular from the Ministry of Public Service, which is expected to provide the revised salary scales and implementation guidelines for all affected categories.
