Deputy prime minister Rebecca Kadaga has reacted to a ‘leaked’ cabinet list that has been making rounds on social media.
The so-called leaked cabinet list was shared at a time when there is some kind of cabinet fever among politicians in Uganda.
New leaders were elected in January 2026. President Yoweri Museveni polled nearly 72 per cent of total votes cast, according to official Electoral Commission results.
As he moves to extend his rule to 45 years nonstop (having taken over in 1986 after a five-year bush war), Museveni will name a new cabinet.
Obviously, some names of the current cabinet list will be retained, but nobody knows who will stay and to what docket they will be posted.
Generally, it is a fluid situation that involves intense behind the scenes lobbying and politicians, especially MPs jostling to catch the eye of the appointing authority: president Museveni.
In fact, some have claimed that the president moves with a small book in which he records names to consider for his next cabinet (2026-2031), writing and erasing depending on new information he gets during the course of his work: meetings and public events.
Speculation is likely to get more rife in coming weeks ahead of Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony. After he has been inaugurated, the president will unveil his cabinet and get ready for work in the next five years.
The so-called leaked cabinet list, which will certainly not be the last one in the social media space, clearly looked fake and fabricated.
The author looked ignorant about cabinet posts and did not even know that he had included a deceased politician.
But well informed and keen eyes have been able to point out this and some mistakes in the so-called leaked cabinet list.
The so-called leaked cabinet list even got to high profile politicians and cabinet members like Rebecca Kadaga, the Kamulu District Woman MP and former speaker of Parliament.
Kadaga pointed that Sarah Mateke, who was included as minister of state for defence and veteran affairs was deceased.
“No 39 [Mateke] has been dead for more than a year,” Kadaga pointed out, punching holes into the authenticity of the so-called leaked cabinet list.
