Kiruhura Milk Seller Arrested after Saying She’d Vote for a Bottle – Instead of Museveni

A woman in Kiruhura District has been arrested after she said she would rather vote for a bottle instead of President Yoweri Museveni in the 2026 presidential election.  The Kiruhura milk seller was arrested on Thursday, 29 May 2025, according to reports.

In a recording shared on social media, the milk seller, Doreen Natumanya Rahuma donned the red beret, worn by supporters of main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).

Natumanya hails from Akageti Trading center, Karengo Village, Nyakahita Parish, Nyakashashara Sub County, Nyabushozi County in Kiruhura District.

She sells boiled milk to travellers on the Kampala-Mbarara Highway.

It is said that police officers arrested Natumanya and drove her to a yet-to-be-identified place. Some reports claimed that she had been picked up by officers from Kaguta Road Police Post.

Kiruhura is President Museveni’s home district. Aged 80, he has been in power for nearly four decades and is expected to seek re-election in 2026.

If Museveni, of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), runs for president to extend his rule beyond his four-decade grip on Uganda, he is likely to face off with singer and politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, who Natumanya supports.

That potential faceoff will be the second one after the 2021 presidential poll – Bobi Wine’s debut in his quest for the country’s top job.

NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya said Natumanya’s arrest was meant to intimidate the party’s supporters and other Ugandans.

“The abduction of Natumanya Doreen is meant to intimidate many like her, who believe that Uganda deserves better. May they never succeed in their evil schemes. Uganda will be free!” wrote Rubongoya.

Natumanya’s arrest is one of the recent arrests and abductions of NUP supporters. Last week, Bobi Wine’s bodyguard Noah Mutwe was charged alongside former police CID spokesperson Charles Mansio Twine.

Twine has since claimed his social media accounts were hacked and used to insult ‘big people’ like Museveni, Gen Muhoozi and Speaker Anita Among. (See Details Here).

Other NUP supporters were previously tortured. For example, another Bobi Wine bodyguard Eddie Mutwe said they injected him with a strange drug, and that he was taking 12 pain killers every day in prison. (See Details Here and There).
