KING’S HEALTH: Tooro Kingdom Breaks Silence on Reports That Omukama Oyo is in ICU in American Hospital

For a kingdom whose identity is deeply tied to the presence of its monarch, rumours about the health of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV quickly became a source of anxiety among his subjects.

Over the weekend, claims circulating on social media suggested that the 34-year-old Tooro King had been admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a hospital in the United States, with some posts alleging that he was receiving treatment for cancer.

The unverified reports spread rapidly, leaving many in Tooro and beyond searching for answers about the condition of their cultural leader. As speculation grew online, the Tooro Kingdom moved to address the rumours and provide clarity about the Omukama’s situation.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Kingdom dismissed the reports as false and misleading, assuring the public that the monarch is not hospitalized and remains in good health.

“We wish to reassure all our people that His Majesty is in good health. He is currently abroad for official engagements and to further his studies,” the Kingdom said.

The statement sought to draw a line between verified information from the Kingdom and the wave of claims circulating online, as officials urged subjects and well-wishers to avoid relying on unconfirmed reports about the Omukama.

For the people of Tooro, the health of King Oyo carries significance beyond that of an individual public figure. The Omukama represents a historic institution that has remained central to the cultural identity and unity of the Tooro people.

The Kingdom said it remains committed to ensuring that information about the monarch and matters affecting the institution reaches the public through official channels.

“The Kingdom remains committed to keeping our people informed through timely, accurate and official communication on matters of public interest. We encourage everyone to rely only on information released via the Kingdom’s official channels,” the statement added.

The institution also expressed concern over what it described as malicious rumours and defamatory misinformation, warning that false reports about the monarch’s wellbeing can create unnecessary fear and undermine public trust.

The Kingdom called on subjects, friends and supporters of Tooro to embrace responsible communication and prioritize truth over speculation, especially when dealing with sensitive issues involving the royal institution.

The clarification brings an end, at least officially, to days of uncertainty surrounding the King’s health, with the Kingdom maintaining that Omukama Oyo is outside Uganda for official engagements and further studies, rather than medical treatment as alleged.

Born on April 16, 1992, King Oyo ascended the Tooro throne in 1995 following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Olimi Kaboyo II. He became one of the world’s youngest reigning monarchs at the age of three and has since grown into the role while representing Tooro at national and international events.

As the Kingdom continues its work, officials have urged the public to treat information about the Omukama’s health with caution and to rely on confirmed updates from the institution.

Unlike other kings, who are of advanced age, the youthful King Oyo has not been known to have scary health conditions.
