First son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba says that the killer of Ggaba Daycare centre children should be hanged.
Christopher Okello Onyum, a 39-year-old man, gained Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program, a daycare centre located in Ggaba Parish in Makindye Division in Kampala City, and stabbed four children to death.
Police swung in action after receiving distress calls reporting an attacker at the daycare centre. Responding officers arrested Christopher Okello Onyum.
The motive behind the killing is not known. Detectives are expected to get some information from the killer Christopher Okello Onyum.
Now, first son and chief of defence forces (CDF) has suggested that Christopher Okello Onyum should face the death penalty.
“The suspect in the Ggaba horrific attack against children has already been apprehended,” wrote Muhoozi. “We shall push for the death sentence for this criminal.”
The last an execution happened in Uganda was in 2005 when two UPDF officers were executed by firing squad. For civilians, the last time a civilian was executed was in 1999. For decades now, the Ugandan state has not administered the death penalty.
Uganda is also taken as an abolitionist state even when the death penalty remains in some law books. Gen Muhoozi has previously threatened to hang veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, as reported Here and There.
Meanwhile, the children killed by Christopher Okello Onyum at a Ggaba daycare centre have been identified, as reported Here.
