Katatumba family floors Shumuk in Hotel Diplomate court case

The family of deceased city businessman Boney Mwebesa Katatumba has won the Muyenga Hotel Diplomate case against tycoon Shukla Babubhai Mukesh aka Shumuk.

After years of a protracted court battle between Shumuk and Katatumba, the former consular of Pakistan in Uganda, court ruled in favour of the deceased’s family.

The two businessmen men had waited for a court resolution since 2008.

Court has now ruled that that Shumuk, the Chief Executive Director for Shumuk Aluminium Industries, had made forgeries to fraudulently acquire the Muyenga prime property.

Shumuk forged the signatures of the deceased’s widow Grace Katatumba and children Angella, Ian, Rugiirwa and JW Karyegira, court rule.

Consequently, he used these signatures to transfer the contested property into his names.

The court judgement now means Shumuk will have to vacate the hotel premises and transfer the three land titles  housing the Hotel to the Katatumba family.

Court also ordered Shumuk to pay Shs 10 billion to the Katatumba family as damages and costs.

Court has also barred Shumuk from accessing the properties in question.

They include a building in a prime city area on Plot 2 Colville Street in Kampala; Hotel Diplomate in Muyenga and Katatumba Banda Island.
