Kadaga Breaks Silence on Challenging Museveni in 2026 Presidential Election

Former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has made it clear she doesn’t plan to run for president in 2026.

Kadaga lost her bid for reelection as speaker to her former deputy Jacob Oulanyah.

She would later accept a job as deputy prime minister and minister in charge of East African Affairs.

But some of her supporters had thought she would start preparing to run for president in the 2026 poll, in which some ruling NRM party members hope President Museveni will contest.

But a public relations officer from her ministry has denied Kadaga intends to seek the country’s top seat.

as distanced herself from the presidential bid reports and posters on social media claiming that she will contest for presidency in 2026.

“For the last one week, there has been circulation on social media fictitious posters of Rt Hon Kadaga as candidate for President 2026. The same posters and allegations were posted on social media in May 2021, a matter that was reported to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and the security agencies,” said Bishop Samuel, the Acting Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Eat African Affairs.

Bishop Samuel added: “This is to clarify that the posters are fake, and intended to cause disharmony in country.”

He also urged UCC to crack down on people vending fake posters of Kadaga.

“The Uganda Communications Commission should take action under the Computer Misuse Act,” he said.
