First lady and education minister Janet Museveni has revealed government plans to set up a factory to manufacture sanitary pads for all school girls.
In 2015, Janet’s husband President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni promised his government would provide free sanitary pads to all school-going girls.
But five years – and a term of office – later, Museveni’s government is yet to fulfill this promose.
In 2017, this unfulfilled pledge put controversial academic and politician Dr Stella Nyanzi with the state for criticizing the first family over the issue.
Now, days before Museveni swears for a sixth successive elective five-year term of office, his wife and minister says government is looking at a permanent solution to the issue.
Presenting her ministry’s achievements, Janet Museveni revealed that construction of a pads factory would be a more sustainable way of dealing with the matter.
