Ugandan child rapper Fresh Kid sat his Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) last year. The results from the examinations were released today. In this article, let us look at how Child Rapper Fresh Kid performed in PLE 2024.
In 2019, Fresh Kid, real name Patrick Ssenyonjo, made headlines with then youth and children’s affairs minister Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi insisting he had to be careful with the balance regarding his education and music industry.
Minister Nakiwala Kiyingi had even vowed to arrest Fresh Kid or the promoters who would book him for shows but later changed her mind on the arrests. She would meet with Fresh Kid and advise him to do his music after school hours.
Then, Fresh was just seven years old. A scholarship from Kampala Parents School — owned by Indian tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia and his family — would see the young rapper pursue his primary education at one of the most expensive schools in the country.
Kampala Parents School — where African teachers complained of discrimination and salary disparities negatively affecting them — is one of the top performing schools in Uganda, and a top choice for wealthy parents in the capital Kampala.
It is at this school where Fresh Kid sat his PLE exams last year. And when results came out today, he had scored a first grade.
Fresh Kid managed aggregate 11 in four subjects examined at PLE. He scored Distinction Two (D2) in English, Credit Four (C4) in Mathematics, Distinction Two (D2) in Science and Credit Three (C3) in Social Studies.
He was happy that he had managed to balance his academics with music, and promised a new singing style once he joins secondary school.
