Former presidential candidate John Patrick Amama Mbabazi has been appointed the chairperson of Africa Global Security Foundation.
Addressing reporters for the first time in six years, Mbabazi, a former secretary general of the ruling NRM and ex-prime minister, revealed that he will be heading the organization based in Dakar, Senegal.
Mbabazi, who had fallen out with his comrade President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, was picked by other African presidents on recommendation of the Ugandan leader.
Mbabazi explained that the foundation will serve the security interests of the continent.
“This foundation isn’t a governmental body. It isn’t a state organ,” he noted
“We won’t be working for anyone or any group but for the good of Africa.”
The announcement of Mbabazi’s appointment comes days after he returned from Republic of Congo and Senegal where he had accompanied President Museveni.
Mbabazi’s recent closeness to Museveni made some predict that he could be Uganda’s next president. (Read Story Here).
