Up to 1,732 students have earned admission to Makerere University and its affiliate of Makerere University Business School (MUBS). The university has also released the cutoff points for 73 courses (academic programs) to which these students have been admitted.
The 1,732 students are a chunk of the 4,000 students for whom government will sponsor university education for the duration of the academic programs to which they have been admitted starting in the 2025-2026 academic year.
After Makerere University and MUBS, other public universities will admit the remaining 2,268 government sponsorship slots amongst themselves.
The other public universities are Kyambogo, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Gulu, Kabale, Busitema, Soroti, Muni, Lira, and Mountains of the Moon University.
To arrive at which students to admit on government sponsorship, the admissions board considers candidates’ performance, setting cutoff points required for one to qualify for the coveted slots.
The 1,732 students were admitted to 73 academic programs or courses.
The most competitive courses include Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MEC) at 52.4 for males, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (ELE) at 52.2 for males, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor Surgery at 52.0 for males, Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (CIV) at 52.8 for males and 52.1 for females, and Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management at 52.2 for males and 53.8 for females.
