President Museveni and his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba
Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has reportedly directed his son and Commander of UPDF Land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to stop posting about national, regional and global security matters on his Twitter page.
Lt Gen Kainerugaba, who is also the senior presidential advisor on special operations, is a regular poster on micro-blogging site Twitter where he commands a considerable following.
His rumored 2026 presidential bid, his love for President Museveni and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame, as well as security matters dominate Lt Gen Kainerugaba’s tweets. Most of the tweets have been controversial, especially coming from a top commander in the national army.
Now, according to reports, Museveni has directed his son and other top commanders in the UPDF and intelligence circles to refrain from tweeting or making controversial posts on security on social media.
Museveni is said to have channeled his warning in a radio call, telling Muhoozi and other security chiefs that while he believed that there was nothing wrong with them posting on social media platforms, writing about security matters was not a good idea.
The president, who is also the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, limited security chiefs’ social media posts to youth affairs, political ideology, education and sports.
It should be remembered that during Lt Gen Kainerugaba’s 48th birthday dinner at State House Entebbe, Rwandan President Kagame said he was ready to edit Muhoozi’s tweets. (Read Story Here).
This directive comes days after Museveni met top UPDF commanders in Ntungamo over alleged anger and discontent in the national army over Muhoozi’s rumored 2026 presidential bid. (Read Story Here).
