The Secretary of the Education Service Commission (ESC), has released the names of teachers who have been shortlisted for government payroll jobs as Education Officers and Assistant Education Officers under the Kampala Centre.
This shortlist is part of several others that have been released in recent months as government moves to improve levels of staffing in secondary schools in the country.
First lady Janet Kataaha Museveni’s Ministry of Education and Sports seeks to recruit thousands of teachers in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
The exercise is being carried out at regional ESC centres, including Mbarara, Mbale, Gulu, Arua and Kampala.
According to ESC Dr Asuman Lukwago, the released list comprises names of teachers who have made the shortlist for subjects which did not appear in the first release for the Kampala Centre.
The subjects include English, Mathematics, Physics, ICT, Chemistry, Agriculture, and Biology, among others.
On the shortlist are thousands of teachers who wish to be included on the government payroll. Some graduated a decade ago and have been waiting for an opportunity to be included on the payroll.
According to ESC, those whose names have not appeared on the shortlist for the subjects they applied for did not succeed, and should try another time. The list also includes dates for interviews for each of the boards. After the interviews, the commission will release the final list of successful applicants, who will be included on the payroll.
